Week 7 EOC: The Pitch

The vodka I am creating is going to be called Lucky Vodka. The whole concept is to create vodka that is made from unique ingredients in order to give an amazing taste. The first ingredient that will be used is Waiakea Hawaiian Volcanic Water. This water is naturally filtered through volcanic rock and as a result is rich in electrolytes and minerals. The company is also deeply invested in giving back and has a program where for every liter sold, they don’t 650 liters to communities in Africa and around the world. We will incorporate this into our brand to so that customers will know that they are giving back while buying Lucky Vodka.  The next ingredient that will be used is spelt. It is an ancient grain. Spelt is a member of the same grain family but is an entirely different species and has certain properties which make it in many respects quite different” (http://thespeltbakers.ca/what-is-spelt/). It will make Lucky Vodka come on very sweet, with notes of sugar and vanilla, then morph into dry, slightly spicy mineral flavors. The other ingredients that will be used include ginger and mint. The mint will enhance the sweetness of the spelt. The ginger will contribute to the spicy mineral flavor.  These ingredients however, will not drastically change the flavor of the vodka but just make the natural tastes stand out more.

The vodka will be a great base for vodka-based drinks but it will also be smooth enough to drink alone. It will be quadruple-distilled in order to get the best flavor and create the perfect balance. Lucky Vodka will not be considered a cheap brand of vodka. It will have good quality but be priced $25.95 for 350 mL bottle. The bottle will be clear to show that the vodka is clear and the brand color will be green. Our packing will include shades of green.

Week 5 EOC: Social Networks and Job Hunting

For the past few years social media has been growing rapidly and the reasons why people are using these platforms are beginning to expand. “Over the past few years, a new type of social interaction has exploded onto the scene—online social networking. Online social networks are online communities where people socialize or exchange information and opinions” ( Marketing: An Introduction, Pg. 142). Originally, social media was thought to just be used for personal use but more and more people are using it in order to connect and find job opportunities. One of the biggest social media platforms being used for this is Facebook. "More companies are trying to tap Facebook Inc.'s 750-million-plus user base to find new employees, threatening traditional job boards and competing with LinkedIn Corp., which has dominated the online professional networking arena" (Recruiters Troll Facebook for Candidates They Like). In the article, Recruiters Troll Facebook for Candidates They Like, they talk about how more and more companies are turning to Facebook in order to recruit employees. The issue with this though is that people like to restrict Facebook to just personal use. This could mean for staying connected with long distance friend or family. They would rather use a separate app for career information than use Facebook for both. The benefits of Facebook and their job posts however is that they don’t flood job boards. This can be frustrating for people because they feel bombarded and overwhelmed with information. It makes it harder for them to find what they are looking for. “Candidates have been 50% more likely to apply to positions they found through Facebook than through other means, said Mr. Staney” (Recruiters Troll Facebook for Candidates They Like). Overall, with the growth that Facebook has seen they are beginning to have an impact on the job searching field.

Week 4 EOC: The Cult of Apple

Our phones are with us everywhere we go. We are constantly looking at them to make sure we don't miss anything. Being a college student, having a job, and participating in community events, I feel as though I am always worrying about whether or not I am forgetting about something. Currently I have a planner; however, planners are so clunky and I can’t always carry mine with me. I always face the issue when I am out of having to remember what I need to write in it since I don’t always have it with me. Due to this I think it would be a great idea if there were an app that is similar to a planner. Yes, we all have a calendar app on our phones but what if we had an app that was similar but more customizable? With my app you would be able to color code all your events. For example work related events could be blue and school events could be orange. You could also categorize events by importance.

The layout would be very similar to a planner. You would be able to choose between a daily view, a weekly view, a monthly view, and a yearly view. Then on the left hand side you would have your notes section. Depending on which layout you have, you would be able to take notes (for example, if it’s a daily view you could make notes about what you need bring to class. If it’s a weekly view, you could make notes about groceries you need to get this weekend). The app would automatically sync with all your other devices so that if you for any reason can’t use your phone you can access all your information from somewhere else.

Overall, I think that an app like this would be very useful for college students because we always have so much on our plate. From scholarship deadlines, to working, to homework, our brains become frazzled with everything we have to remember. My app would allow us to keep all our tasks in one spot on a device that we have with us all the time so we don’t have to worry about anything.
